RBS has always been a dominant player in the Foreign Exchange market. As someone who was keen to break into this area, there was no better team for me to join. I have always had an inclination to see the world in numbers. That’s why I chose the degree I did so moving into this area seemed like the natural progression.

I started with being involved in a major technical project within the team. It saw me developing models to track movements in various FX spot rates. The work was pretty intense, but the models I helped to develop are now used regularly by the desk. So I guess it was all worthwhile!

I really enjoy the responsibilities they give you here. I also enjoy the fact I’m learning new things all the time. I get to work with some of the most experienced professionals in the business here.

Aside from the work itself, it is the people who work here that make coming into work each day so fun. They’re so dedicated and supportive so working alongside them makes every day a learning experience.

What attracted you to working for RBS?

What attracted me to RBS was I did a course which would eventually lead me to an investment banking job, and RBS, being one of the top players of the European Union and the other countries, I got a good break to join the FX strategy team so I thought nothing better than starting here and seeing how it goes.

How would you describe the working environment?

The working culture in RBS, to sum I would say is very professional and friendly at the same time. On a daily basis I spend about 10 or 12 hours at my desk so the people I interact with are very important. They're really professional, very supportive given the fact that this is my first job, I have a zillion questions every day and they're very patient with me. They understand the fact that I'm learning. My team is really great. Once I get up I can't wait to come to work.

What made you decide to go into your business area?

I decided to join the FX strategy team because I've always had a knack for seeing the world in terms of numbers and I started working as a 3 month intern on my desk, and I started doing models and indicators and using my econometrics skills and my statistics skills which I think I have a good knack and grasp of. Having gained experience at that I wanted to join the team on a permanent basis, and extend it.

What are you most looking forward to in your career?

I'm looking forward to being a specialist strategist in the FX world and be known not just at RBS but across the street. I would like to have a couple of countries allocated just to me and build a credible brand for myself and RBS.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The thing that I enjoy most at RBS in my role is that I have so many different projects going on at the same time that no day is similar and FX being such a volatile market, every day there's so much to talk about, so much going on. There's always a daily thing that we're doing, analysing the markets, analysing the movements, as well as I have a lot of other projects, building of modules, indicators that are running simultaneously. So, I divide my time between dedicating time to the models and doing the daily work that we have to do as an analyst. That's one of the things that I really enjoy about my job.
