Some advice I'd give to future graduates would be that although it's a difficult environment that doesn't mean there aren't jobs available. There definitely are jobs available at RBS and although it's a difficult environment to work in and you've got to really work for your place, that's a good thing because you learn more and I think the current environment ... if you can work in this environment you can work in any environment. So, I think it's definitely a good time to get in there and really get a good kickstart into the career of banking.
My best day so far, you know I've had good days out with the team etc.. but from a work perspective there was a deal that I've been working on with lot's of people on the desk and they'd given me quite a big responsibility helping with the presentations I helped give the presentation to the client and then when the deal went through it was a really great feeling that you were involved in such a successful deal.
I think a good thing about RBS is there's definitely the expectation there that there's a lot of hard work to be done and everyone does work really hard and does a good job and that's evident in the great deals that people do but at the same time teams are always going out for drinks or dinner and for me that's important because it's nice to work with people that you get on with. So I think it's a good balance between work and social life.
It's odd thinking about my future with RBS because I've only just started but I'd like to be there for a long time and there are people that you look up to and think I hope one day I can be as successful as they are. I'd just like to be a successful person that people know who I am for doing a good job. I think RBS is a good place to be to have a really good career in banking.
What attracted me to RBS mainly was word of mouth, of people's experiences there. So I think generally it's a good place to work from a social aspect and also, obviously from it being one of the leading banks of the world.
