The financial needs of large organisations can be incredibly complex. Structurers use their ingenuity to tailor products around those needs.

As a structurer, you will price and package complex derivative products on behalf of our clients. Expect to work closely with our sales teams. Acting as their consultant, you will analyse a particular hedging or investment strategy and then structure an appropriate product solution around it. It’s highly quantitative work that requires you to understand the intricacies of both individual products and investor requirements.

As a graduate on this programme, you will shadow senior members of the team and develop your skills in pricing and scenario analysis modelling. The work is primarily project based, and structured deals can often take several days or even weeks to develop. You will also be on hand to market these new products, supporting the sales team in client presentations.

If you enjoy working with sophisticated mathematical models, this could the ideal career choice. Structurers get to experience the fast pace of the front office while carrying out in-depth analytical work. There are still pressures in the role, to be sure. Now that credit and capital are less abundant, it’s down to our structurers to spot opportunities wherever they arise.

What we look for

Given the quantitative nature of this role, a background in maths, science or engineering would be a real advantage. You will also need to be highly adept at spotting patterns and solving problems. Communication and interpersonal skills are an absolute must, since you’ll be working closely with our front-office teams on a daily basis.
