Work at the heart of our business
Finance operates at the core of the RBS business. In fact, we’re pivotal to its success. And because RBS is such a diverse organisation, it makes our finance function an incredibly varied place to build your career.  The broad business experience you gain across our divisions and businesses will mean that you’re perfectly placed to enjoy an incredibly successful career within RBS. If you work hard and perform well, by the end of the programme you can expect to be an experienced, qualified finance professional ready to take on your first managerial position.

A comprehensive overview – a professional qualification
This recently revised three year rotational programme has been designed to give you an understanding of all the Finance disciplines across RBS. In fact, the programme encompasses all of our Group Finance and Audit functions as well as the finance functions within Global Banking & Markets. It means the scope of the programme is now broader than ever and you can expect to gain experience in everything from core accounting through to specialist areas such as Corporate Finance. We’ll also support you to achieve a professional qualification with ICAS, CIMA, or ACCA.

Opening up the world of finance
Perform exceptionally well on the programme, and you’ll have the chance to do an international placement in the final year. Our current graduates are doing placements in the US, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dublin. Once the programme is complete, you could find yourself landing a permanent position overseas. You’ll certainly get exposure to different cultures within the UK – each team has its own distinct atmosphere. But all of them will welcome you, mentor you and help you to make the most of your placement.

The challenges you need to thrive
Because this is a rotational programme, you’ll need to build new relationships on a regular basis, adding value to each different team from the outset. It means you’ll be constantly learning and stepping outside your comfort zone. The projects you could be involved with will be varied but all equally as challenging. To give you an idea, you could be supporting one of our Front Office trading products in GBM or working on a new acquisition in Corporate Finance. This, in turn, could see you moving between different offices and different locations. Our programme has been designed to give you as much freedom and flexibility as possible.

The support you need to grow

We’ll assign you a Business Coach to guide and support you through the programme and you’ll have the support of different line managers on each rotation – they’ll help to make sure you achieve your objectives and goals. We also have a buddy system whereby one of our existing graduates will be on hand to show you the ropes and offer you more informal advice.

Going beyond finance
We encourage our teams to get involved in fundraising and we work closely with the Prince’s Trust as well the Caledonian Challenge. Our current Finance graduates have collectively raised thousands for charity.

The qualities we look for
You’ll need to work in a number of different teams so strong interpersonal skills are absolutely vital – and especially because at least one of your rotations will be into a client-facing role. We work for both internal and external clients, so your relationship building, team working and communication skills should be second to none. Flexibility is also essential, as you’ll find yourself working in a number of different locations. Enthusiastic and proactive, you’ll have the drive and determination to make a real impact in each new rotation.
