HR at the very forefront
It’s vital that we manage our human resources intelligently; our plans will only become a reality if we keep our people engaged and motivated. That’s why HR is so important to us. Join this department, and you’ll find yourself at the heart of the organisation ––driving change and tackling real business issues. Our team act as internal consultants within the Group and their remit covers every challenge within HR.

A truly unified approach
At present, more than 100,000 people work for us in over 50 different countries. The Group encompasses a number of different brands, including Coutts, NatWest, ABN AMRO and Direct Line. The challenge of recruiting, motivating, engaging, developing and rewarding so many people in a group with so many brands is huge. This requires us to be sensitive to the needs of each business while delivering solutions that are consistent across the Group.

How we work
Our team comprises business partners, project-based consultants and a range of technical specialists. Together, we deal with every type of HR issue – from recruitment and training, to development and rewards, to career building and change management. Specialist teams within the division include: Remuneration and Benefits; Policy and Employment; HR Shared Service; Health, Safety and Wellbeing; Group Resourcing; and Group Organisational Effectiveness.

Our programme
Our two-year graduate programme will give you the chance to rotate through a number of HR functions. These will see you working in business-facing roles in areas such as Global Banking and RBS UK. You will also have the chance to do specialist placements in such areas as Remuneration and Benefits, Policy and Employment, Resourcing and Organisational Effectiveness. Each rotation lasts six months and will provide you with ever-increasing responsibilities. Together, they will provide you with the platform to pursue either a generalist or specialist HR career.

Unique insight. Great support
We work across all businesses and divisions in a consultative manner, as true business partners. Our programme gives you the opportunity to see aspects of the global operations that wouldn’t ordinarily be available to most staff. You’ll also have access to a huge library of learning support materials as well as guidance from senior leaders. We’ll encourage you to study for professional qualifications – including the CIPD – and supplement this with a range of learning and development courses. By the end of the programme, you’ll have all the tools to become a future HR leader here.

What we’ll be looking for
We need graduates with great interpersonal skills who are stimulated by change and all that this offers. This means that you don’t rest on your success, but rather make it happen time and again. Bright, analytical and unafraid to challenge convention, you'll be able to hold your own with key stakeholders at every level in the business.  If you have demonstrated these qualities in a previous work placement, this would be a real advantage.
