Big business. Bright future
With its people and products, RBS Insurance will play a major role in the future of the Group. We are home to some of the most iconic brands in the sector and have won much acclaim for transforming smart ideas into industry-shaping innovations.

We are currently the UK’s largest motor insurer. With four million policies, we’re also the country’s second largest home insurer. Our portfolio includes some of the best-known brands in the business. Direct Line, Churchill, Privilege, Green Flag – all these and more operate under our umbrella. We’re also a formidable force in the SME commercial insurance market, providing protection through a network of around 2,200 brokers.

Our sphere of influence isn’t restricted to the UK either. We have two-and-a-half million motor policies internationally and hold prominent positions in the direct markets of Italy (#1) and Germany (#3).

Peace of mind
The importance of what we do cannot be underestimated. Our policies provide peace of mind to millions of people, both here in the UK and internationally. As such, this is a fantastic area for you to build a long-term career. Insurance is one of the world’s biggest industries. In terms of careers, it offers a truly remarkable range of opportunities – for both generalists and specialists.

What we offer
We sell and underwrite retail and commercial insurance directly, as well as through brokers and partnerships. This programme has been designed to give you an overview of underwriting and pricing within commercial insurance.  You’ll have the chance to work for both our commercial own brands and our broker-led business. As well as a CII qualification, you’ll have the opportunity to gain a whole range of leadership and technical insurance skills.

Diverse challenges
The scheme lasts for at least one year and you could be seconded into a variety of areas within the business. This means you’ll be able to experience the breadth and diversity of our work from a Head Office perspective as well as working on the front line to deliver our strategy and service to customers. Put simply, the programme will develop your technical insurance skills, and your leadership potential.

Real world experience and a professional qualification
You can expect plenty of challenges – not least because you’ll need to balance the delivery of real business results with the achievement of a professional qualification. Applying your understanding of the different aspects of commercial insurance and the various routes to market, you’ll make sure our products meet our customers’ needs and that we always deliver our projects on time.

Varied work
The projects you’re involved with will vary greatly – it could be that you’re analysing customer needs, reviewing the pricing of a product or creating new products. You could help to assess the profitability of opportunities, look at our operational processes, or review and improve our underwriting and pricing strategy. Whatever the project, you can be confident that it will stretch your skills to the full.

A culture of success
By the time you finish the programme, you’ll have developed an excellent understanding of underwriting and pricing, our strategy and our goals. You’ll be working in a culture where everyone works together to achieve our business objectives. You’ll be able to apply your own technical expertise and knowledge to contribute to our success. We’ll expect you to challenge our existing practices as well as changing the way insurance is underwritten here. This is an excellent platform for moving into a senior role within the business.

Who we’re looking for

It goes without saying that you should be numerate. Presentation skills are also important. Report writing will equally form a big part of your role so as well as being able to provide a logical methodology, you’ll need to be clear, concise and structured in your approach. Beyond that, we’re looking for people who are confident working both as part of a group and on their own. You will be positive, willing to learn and happy to take on responsibility.
